MAMMOTH

Mammoth Lakes is a small mountain town (population 7 – 10,000) nestled into the Eastern Sierra Nevadas, at an elevation of 8,000 feet. We are at the base of California’s premier all-year mountain destination, Mammoth Mountain.

Students get to experience college education in a world-class resort town, at 8,000 feet, in the heart of the Sierra Nevadas. The South Gateway Student Apartments provide everything students need to become active, interested, self-sufficient college students and adults.

An Adventurer's Playground

Students may the myriad of bike trails that run directly in front of the apartments and head through the sage brush toward the Sherwin Mountains, stop at epic lookouts, and loop around the town through woods, forest, and creeks.

Then of course there is fishing, hiking, and biking at the Lakes Basin, Crystal Crag, Devil’s Postpile, and Reds Meadow. June Lake is only twenty minutes north by car, with Mammoth Mountain’s sister resort, June Mountain, and the eastern entrance to Yosemite is only another fifteen minutes up the road from there at Lee Vining.

Obsidian Dome, Mono Lake, the Minarets, and the town of Bishop, CA are other destinations that keep us excited about living, playing, and working in Mammoth.

Work While You Go to School

Students are easily able to find work in Mammoth, should they desire. We keep our ear to the ground and pass along opportunities to our students – Mammoth welcomes the desire to work and an honest work ethic. From jobs at Mammoth Mountain to jobs in town, students can work in a variety of fields, including a chosen field of study.

Mammoth also boasts free public transportation running until 2AM during the winter season, and until 10PM every other night of the year. We have a bus stop in front of the college, and a trolley (or red line) stop about 5 – 10 minutes away next to our 24-hour Vons Grocery Store.
